Some Metal Gear Solid games will return to digital storefronts after being delisted last year. The Metal Gear Solid series is one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history. Not only does it feature a rich cast of iconic characters and an engaging, multi-layered storyline, but it also helped create the “stealth action” genre. Without it, we wouldn’t be likely to have games like Splinter Cell, but it also opened the door to many other franchises thanks to its approach to storytelling. With that said, it’s somewhat difficult to experience the series these days as some of the best entries were released during the PS2 era and haven’t been remade over and over like some of the other franchises. At the end of 2021, Konami was forced to delist Metal Gear Solid 2 And the 3 From a number of storefronts due to licensing issues, but it seems to be coming back.
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Metal Gear franchise, Konami has taken to Twitter to confirm that it’s bringing deleted versions of Metal Gear games back to digital stores. This is likely in reference to Metal Gear Solid 2 And the 3 Despite the fact that these addresses are not explicitly mentioned. The licensing issue revolved around the historical footage used in the games and it seems Konami has settled all of that. Upon re-listing these games, players should be able to purchase and play the aforementioned Metal Gear Solid games on platforms such as Xbox Series X | S via Xbox 360 backward compatibility. It’s unclear if this could open the door to some remasters or remakes, but it seems relatively unlikely.

Either way, it’s good to hear that Konami is making an effort to try and keep the various Metal Gear Solid titles playable. Fans have had trouble with Konami over the years largely giving away some of their greatest IPs and how they’ve dealt with some creator Hideo Kojima. It remains to be seen if Metal Gear Solid has any future outside of this.
